This step-by-step guide will walk you through setting up your Ledger® device, installing the Ledger Live® app, and securing your first crypto assets.

Step 1: Purchase Your Ledger® from the Official Source

Step 2: Unbox and Verify Your Device

Step 3: Download and Install Ledger Live®

Step 4: Set Up Your Ledger® Device

  1. Connect your device via USB (or Bluetooth for Nano X).
  2. Select “Set up as new device.”
  3. Create a secure PIN code (4 to 8 digits).
  4. Carefully write down your 24-word recovery phrase on the provided recovery sheet.
⚠️ Never take a photo of your recovery phrase or store it digitally.⚠️ If you lose your recovery phrase, you will lose access to your crypto.

Your recovery phrase is the only backup of your private keys. Store it safely offline, ideally in a fireproof and waterproof location. You can also consider a Cryptosteel Capsule or similar backup solution.

Step 5: Add Accounts & Manage Assets

In Ledger Live:

  1. Go to "Accounts" → "Add account".
  2. Select the cryptocurrency (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum).
  3. Verify and approve the connection on your device.
  4. Now you can send, receive, and manage your crypto securely.
